Emerge appoints new board member for upcoming year

Emerge Sarasota is pleased to announce the addition of one new member to its board of directors – Jasmine Akins-Carrasquillo, MPH.

Emerge searched for board members to fill vacancies throughout the fall and selected Akins in early November as a candidate for the board position.

“The board and I are very excited to welcome Jasmine to Emerge,” said Samantha Gholar Weires, Emerge founder and president. “Jasmine’s energy, professionalism and wealth of knowledge in public health are an asset to our board and to the demographic we serve.”

Akins holds a masters degree in public health and is currently pursuing her doctorate degree from Keiser University. In addition to her educational accolades, Akins has over seven years of experience in public health, program management and community education. She is currently employed with CAN Community Health as the PrEP Program Coordinator.

Akins became involved with Emerge through its annual “Free Your Mind” Minority Mental Health Awareness Week. She has participated and presented in the health & wellness initiative since 2019.
